Our Senior Minister since 1992, Bob and his wife, Donna, live in South Burlington and have three adult sons. Raised and ordained within the United Presbyterian Church, Bob has been a United Church of Christ clergyperson throughout his ministerial career.

Rev. Adrianne Carr
Associate Minister

Rev. Adrianne Carr

Rev. Adrianne Carr is a native of Boston and can still be heard dropping ‘r’s.’ She has served for 12 years at First Church. Prior to Burlington, Adrianne was the Associate Director of Community Ministry of Montgomery County, Maryland where she advocated for the needs of the poor and the homeless. She attended Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. and was ordained in 1987. She and her husband Neil, also a UCC Pastor in Vermont, have three adult children.

Wendy Whaples Scully
Administrative Assistant

 Wendy Whaples Scully

Wendy joined the church in 1992 and began working as an administrative assistant here in 2000. Wendy and Miles have been married for 25 years and have two adult daughters. In addition to working fulltime, Wendy enjoys doing standup comedy and writing fiction.

Sylvia Stebbins

 Sylvia Stebbins

Sylvia has been ringing handbells for 49 years and has directed the Austin handbell Choir since 1995. She is a retired nurse and has been married to Everett for 48 years. They have three adult children, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Co-Director of High School Ministries

 Lucy Samara

Lucy has served as Director of Outreach Ministries at First Congregational Church since 1991 - adding the role of Co-Director of High School Youth Ministries in 1999.

Lucy serves on the Executive Board of the Joint Urban Ministry Program, is a Committee On Temporary Shelter (COTS) Board member, chairs the Champlain Valley CROP Hunger Walk and is actively involved with local refugee resettlement initiative.

 Billy Porter

I was born on July 13, 1950 at a hospital 300 yds. away. Don’t let the distance fool you. I have come a long ways. I enjoy working at First Church and have been here three years. I have two daughters and three grandsons.

Helen Long
Bookkeeper

 Helen Long

Helen Long has been the bookkeeper of this church for 17 years. She was the former owner of the Burlington Redstone B&B. Her husband George has recently retired fro the Bio-Chemistry Dept. in the School of Medicine at UVM. They are now spending much of their spare time traveling; Key West in the winter, Sedona in the fall. Helen is on the Board of the Fletcher Allen Hospital Auxillary and an active member in the Burlington Garden Club.

Laura Elder-Connors
Director of Cherub, Choragic & Youth Choirs

 Laura Elder-Connors

Laura has been singing in church choirs since childhood and is looking forward to her 13th year leading the Cherub Choir, 7th year with Youth Choir, and her 5th year directing the Choragic Choir. When she's not sifting thru music for all three groups, she keeps busy organizing and enjoying her family of 4 children, one husband, 2 cats, and one dog. Laura is also babysitting other folks' in her spare time.

Bonnie O'Day
Co-Director of High School Ministries

 Bonnie O'Day

Bonnie O'Day is the Co-Director of High School Ministries. She and her husband Michael are both teachers.

Bonnie brings both her professional training and her empathy to her church position. The High School Youth find in Bonnie an active listener and a good friend.

Beth Morgan
Director of Children's & Family Ministries

 Beth Morgan

Beth is the Director of Christian Education and Children and Youth Ministries.

She grew up in Northfield Vermont where her father taught at Norwich University.

Beth and her husband Cliff have three children who are all active in Children's programming at the Church.

David Neiweem
Director of Music

 David Neiweem

David is in his 12th year as Music Director and Organist at First Church, where he conducts the Sanctuary Choir and oversees the entire music program. He has been involved in church music his entire life. A native of Chicago, he is a graduate of Oberlin College (Mus. B.) and the University of Wisconsin-Madison (M.Mus.DMA).

In addition, David is Music Director of the Burlington Choral Society. He and his life partner, French horn player Alan Parshley, have lived in Burlington for thirty years, having met in graduate school in Wisconsin in 1979. Both teach at the University of Vt., where David is a Professor of Music.
